چکیده

Bowes, V. F., Datta, B. N., Silver, M. D. and Minielly, J. A. (1974). Thorax, 29, 530-533. Annular injuries following the insertion of heart valve prostheses. The clinical presentation and morphological findings in eight cases of annular injury associated with the insertion of prosthetic heart valves are discussed. The lesions presented as a separation of the left atrium and ventricle at the mitral annulus (one patient), a sinus or false aneurysm in the left posterior atrioventricular groove (two patients), or as a separation of the aortic root from the base of the heart (five patients). The pathogenesis of the lesions is similar. Annular tissue was weakened either by the removal of excess tissue or by an abnormal stress placed on normal tissue or by a slight stress placed on tissue altered by disease, and, as a result, it separated or tore. The resultant haemorrhage either caused the patient's death or, with time, produced the other morphological findings. Factors predisposing patients to the injuries are discussed and a differential diagnosis of annular pseudoaneurysms is provided.

Update of the European standards for inactive surgical implants in the area of heart valve prostheses.

OBJECTIVE The approval of a heart valve for the European market takes place in accordance with European and international standards. A new version of the EN Standards was published in June 2006, which responded to different technical innovations in the area of heart valve technology. This work outlines the differences between the new EN ISO 5840 (2005) and the old EN 12006-1 (1999). METHODS W...

Trans-catheter Bioprosthetic Heart Valve Implantation in Iran (Tehran Heart Centre Experience)

Introduction: With the development of interventional cardiology in the world, in addition to coronary and aortic diseases, the treatment of heart valve diseases through catheters has recently begun. The treatment of aortic stenosis (which was only possible with open surgery and valve replacement) was first performed in the world in 2002 by Alain Cribier in France with catheter insertion of the ...

Chronic haemolysis following insertion of ball valve prostheses.

Intravascular haemolysis after the insertion of intracardiac prosthetic material has been reported by Sayed et al. (1961), Verdon, Forrester, and Crosby (1963), Sigler et al. (1963), Gehrmann and Loogen (1964), Reed and Dunn (1964), Marsh (1964), and Yacoub, Rogers, and Taylor (1965). The haemolysis may be sufficient to produce clinical haemolytic anaemia or may cause a compensated haemolytic s...

Vortex and Oil Distribution of Oil-Water Annular Flow through Ball Valve

The study on the flow behave inside of a ball valve is important for heavy crude oil transportation. Owe to the fast progress of the numerical technique, it becomes an effective way to observe the flows inside a valve and to analyze the flow structure of the oil-water core annular flow. In the present study, the simulation of the oil-water core annular flowing through the valve is conducted...

Operative Management – Patient-Prosthesis Mismatch

The main objective of aortic valve replacement (AVR) is to relieve left ventricular (LV) burden and normalized LV mass (LVM). During AVR, many surgeons make final decision to select the size of the prosthetic valve based on intraoperative measurement. It is ideal to place an aortic prosthesis that is appropriately sized to the patient. However, this is not always possible owing to insufficient ...
